Chelsea working on a contract to sign Leicester City central defender
Chelsea is working on a deal to sign the Leicester City defender Wesley Fofana. The asking price of Leicester could be steep. The reports are suggesting that they could be asking for as much as £85m. The reason being Fofana has five years left on his contract.
The French Under-21 international player signed a two-year contract with Leicester in March. This keeps him at King Power until 2027.
Chelsea is expected to explore a two-player deal as part of the offer.
Chelsea has already signed Kalidou Koulibaly from Naples. They made attempts to bring in Nathan Ake of Manchester City. They targeted Seville’s Jules Conde after the departure of Antonio Rudiger and Andreas Christensen.
Wesley Fofana had played only 630 minutes in the Premier League last season due to injuries. Despite this, every 90 minutes, the center-back finished fifth in the league to recover in the third defensive position. He has bagged the fifteenth position for completed passes.
On the other hand, Blues coach Thomas Tuchel said that he is “a little bit” annoyed with Barcelona over their pursuit of Cesar Azpilicueta.
The 32-year-old has a year left on his Chelsea contract. He is said to have asked to leave the club after he signed a contract at Stamford Bridge. This way he returned to his native Spain.
But Tuchel says he is not very sure if he wants to give Azpilicueta as per his wants. He believes Barcelona has underestimated the defender. He compared his value to the value of Chelsea’s latest arrest Kalidou Koulibaly. Kalidou signed for £33m from Napoli earlier this month.
When asked in Universal Orlando Resort whether he was troubled by the Spanish giants’ pursuit of the Azpilicueta, Tuchel replied to this statement, “Maybe a little.”
When asked about the Spaniard’s future, Tuchel said: “It’s a tough question because I’m not sure if I want to give my husband what he wants.”
“At some point, it is about what we want. I just made a comparison about how much we fought for Koulibaly, who is a national team player and about the same age.”
Chelsea midfielder Conor Gallagher hopes to play an important role for Thomas Tuchel’s side this season. He had a successful loan spell at Crystal Palace.
“He is a very important player for Napoli, but we have a Spanish international who is the captain of Chelsea. I see him maybe at the same level, but Barcelona does not see him at that level. So I am not sure if I want to give him what he wants because he is a huge player.”
