ndia wins the games by 8 wickets on Day 3: India finishes the demolition job of Pakistan with chilling efficiency. A solid bowling performance displayed by a brilliant opening stand between Smriti Mandhana and Shafali Verma helped India to win over Pakistan in the Commonwealth Games.

India bagged a win over Pakistan by 8 wickets.

India beat Pakistan to register their first win in the 2022 Commonwealth Games. The win was acquired in a rain-affected 18 overs-per-side match.

Pakistan had a steady start with their batting despite losing an early wicket. But things took a downward curve after Sneh Rana from India took two wickets. She bagged these wickets in the ninth over. She dismissed Pakistani batters Bismah Maroof and Muneeba Ali. Marrof made 17 runs and Muneeba made 32 runs.

Wickets continued to fall in a series. India began piling on the pressure with some excellent fielding. S Meghana pulled off a direct hit at the non-striker’s end and dismissed Aliya Riaz. Omaima Sohail was run out before her.

Shafali Verma took a low, diving return catch in the penultimate over. This became one of the highlights of India’s outstanding fielding display in the match.

Pakistan was bowled out for 99 runs in the rain-shortened 18-over game. Pakistan had their goal cut out when Smriti Mandhana came out with all guns blazing. The left-handed opener knocked Anam Amin for a six. She scored a four in the second over. She added three boundaries in the next over off Diana Baig’s bowling.

Shafali Verma added to Pakistan’s woes and scored a six and a four the next over. In the last over of the Powerplay, Pakistan finally sent back Verma. India stood at 61/1 and was well on track to ace the run chase.

Mandhana brought up her half-century with a six. She stood unbeaten as India completed the run chase with more than eight overs to spare.

    Revised conditions

The play was reduced to 18 overs per side due to the effect of rain. Due to the delay, the PowerPlay was set to have just five overs instead of the standard six.

The skies were clear and the players were out to begin live action. The Indian players were milling around the boundary ropes, itching for play to begin.

The rain resumed after the toss but stopped soon. The play resumed live action as per the revised schedule.
