“I am grateful for your unmatched support. I am grateful for the happiness we have shared since 2008.
“I’ve made the decision to quit my international career. The subsequent action has been finished. “I’ll miss you…” When they came to Qatar, Belgium’s star players were nearing the end of their careers.
Jan Vertonghen, 35, and Toby Alderweireld, 33, stalwart defensive players, remained important backs.
While 33-year-old midfielder Axel Witsel showed signs of slowing down.

Hazard started Belgium’s first two games as captain. But he struggled to make an impact and was replaced on the hour in both of them. He was relegated to the bench for Croatia’s crucial 0-0 draw, with only three minutes remaining to attempt a comeback. In November 2008, Hazard, then just 17 years old, made his international debut.

His team, Belgium, had not qualified for an international tournament since 2002, and his career began there. A golden generation of Belgian talent, which has qualified for every major tournament. Since 2014, was sparked by the emergence of the former Chelsea ace. They reached their peak when they finished third at the World Cup in 2018. Rose to No. 1 in the Fifa World Rankings.
