The historic Test series against Pakistan began earlier on Thursday in Rawalpindi. Interestingly since November 2005, an English crew took the field in a Test against Pakistan in Pakistan.

Fans had hoped that this series would be close, but based on how things went on the first day, it looks like it will be one of the most even in Test cricket history. On their own turf, England’s batters absolutely destroyed Pakistan’s bowling attack.

At the conclusion of Day 1, the visitors had 506/4 on the board after Zak Crawley, Ben Duckett, Ollie Pope, and Harry Brook each hit 100. On the first day of the Rawalpindi Test, only 75 overs were possible, which should be noted by fans. The score could have been around 600 if Pakistan bowled 90 overs.

On a tumultuous day in Rawalpindi, numerous records were broken. In light of this, the top four men’s records that have been broken today are as follows:

#1 Fastest 100 in the first innings of a Test

Fastest 100 at the start of a Test match:

    13.4 overs – England🏴󠁧󠁢󠁥󠁮󠁧󠁿 v PAK at Rawalpindi, today
    14.2 overs – Bangladesh🇧🇩 v ENG at Dhaka, 2010#PAKvENG

For the most part, the openers will more often than not take time while playing red-ball cricket. Before beginning their attacking strokes, they play a few initial overs in an effort to dull the ball.

Ben Duckett and Zak Crawley deviated significantly from that pattern. They raced to 100 runs in just 13.4 overs after crushing the opposition bowlers in the first over. It was the team’s fastest first-innings century in a Test.

#2 The highest run rate for a 200-run opening partnership

Highest run rate for a double century opening partnership in Tests:

    6.53 – Zak Crawley & Ben Duckett🏴󠁧󠁢󠁥󠁮󠁧󠁿 v PAK, 2022
    6.29 – Joe Burns & David Warner🇦🇺 v NZ, 2015
    6.22 – AB de Villiers & Graeme Smith🇿🇦 v ZIM, 2005#PAKvENG

The opening partnership was set by Zak Crawley and Ben Duckett in Rawalpindi, as previously mentioned. In just 35.4 overs, they added 233 runs for the first wicket. During their partnership, the run rate was 6.53.

Crawley and Duckett broke the record for the highest run rate in an opening stand with 200 runs thanks to this partnership. In 2015, their run rate against New Zealand was 6.29.

#3 Most runs on Day 1 of a Test match

England becomes the first team to score 500+ total on first day of a Test match.

    — Kausthub Gudipati (@kaustats) December 1, 2022

Back in 1910, Australia scored 494 sudden spikes in demand for the first day of the season of the Sydney Test match against South Africa. Before being broken in the Rawalpindi Test match earlier today, the record stood for 112 years.

On Day 1 of the Test, England scored 506 runs, breaking the previous record for most runs scored on the first day of a Test.

#4 The most centuries on the first day of a Test

This is the first time a Test match began with as many as 4 hundreds on day one.

    Zak Crawley 122
    Ben Duckett 107
    Ollie Pope 108
    Harry Brook 101* so far#PAKvENG

    — Kausthub Gudipati (@kaustats) December 1, 2022

This test was the first in the format’s history to break four hundred on Day 1. The day’s four centurions were Ollie Pope, Ben Duckett, Harry Brook, and Zak Crawley.

Despite losing wickets to Pope, Duckett, and Crawley, Brook is still not out on 101*. It will be fascinating to check whether he can finish a twofold hundred tomorrow in Rawalpindi.
