Five records were broken during India’s nail-biting super-over victory over Afghanistan
The crowd at the M Chinnaswamy Stadium in Bengaluru was delighted as Team India defeated Afghanistan in a dramatic third T20I on Wednesday.
The nail-biting game included not one, but two Super Overs, with both teams scoring 212 in their allotted 20 overs. It all started when Rohit Sharma won the toss and decided to bat first.

Here are five of the significant records broken during the just concluded third T20I between India and Afghanistan.
1. India has the most T20I partnership for any wicket
Rohit and Rinku brought the house down with their blistering strokes and an incredible partnership of 190 runs off only 93 deliveries.
From a precarious 22/4 position, the partnership drew India out and flipped the game on its head.
When the two scored 114 runs together, they broke India’s record for the best fifth-wicket partnership.
After 32 more runs, it was the most successful fifth-wicket partnership in men’s T20I history.
By the end of the Indian innings, Rohit and Rinku had scored the most runs by an Indian combo for any wicket in T20I history, with 190.
The two outperformed Sanju Samson and Deepak Hooda, who both hit 176 runs for the second wicket against Ireland in 2022.
2. Oldest Indian to score a T20I century
Rohit Sharma’s recent T20I century makes him the oldest Indian cricketer to get a century in the format.
Rohit, 37 years and 262 days old, has achieved his eighth T20I ton. He beat Virat Kohli’s record, being the oldest Indian to score a T20I century.
Kohli was 33 years and 307 days old when he earned his maiden T20I hundred (122), which came against Afghanistan in 2022.
Overall, Rohit is now the sixth-oldest player in T20I history. Gibraltar’s Avinash Pai is the oldest player to score a T20I century (107), doing it against Bulgaria in 2021 at the age of 39 years and 272 days.
Rohit’s 121 on Wednesday became the greatest individual score by a player in a tied T20I game. Brendon McCullum’s 116 against Australia in 2010 was the previous high.
3. Most runs in the final two overs of a T20 innings
After stabilizing the Indian innings in the middle overs, Rohit Sharma and Rinku Singh put the Afghan players to the cleaners at the end.
Afghanistan’s last two overs were extremely expensive, with both batters concluding on a high note. Azmatullah Omarzai bowled the 19th over, conceding only 11 runs in the first three overs.
However, Rohit hammered him for a six and a four before raising his bat for a spectacular century. Rinku finished the over with a six, and India scored 22 runs off it.
When Karim Janat bowled the final over, things became a lot worse for the visitors. Rohit made 18 runs from the first three deliveries, including a no-ball.
Rinku faced the final three deliveries and superbly sent them all over the ropes, scoring 36 runs from the over.
4. Mohammad Nabi is the first Afghani to hit 100 T-20I sixes
Mohammad Nabi has been at the heart of Afghan cricket since his debut in 2009. The exceptional all-rounder has played 115 T20Is for Afghanistan, the most of any player.
On Wednesday, he had 34 outings with a strike rate of 212.5. During his innings, he scored two fours and three sixes, extending his T20 international total to 100 sixes.
Nabi presently has 101 sixes and 136 fours in 107 T20I innings. He is the first Afghanistan player to score 100 T20I sixes.
5. For the first time, two T20I centuries were scored on the same day in two separate games
A century in a T20I is rarer than in an ODI or Test match. However, on Wednesday, fans were treated to something new.
With many T20I bilateral series running concurrently, two centuries were recorded on the same day, January 17.
While Rohit scored 121 against Afghanistan, New Zealand’s Finn Allen hit 137 in the fourth T20I against Pakistan in Dunedin.
This was the first occasion two players got T20I centuries in different games on the same day.
