The International League T20 (ILT20), which is based in the United Arab Emirates, is set to pay the highest-paid contracted players $450,000 per season. This makes it the second-most lucrative cricket league for some players, after the Indian Premier League (IPL). Multiple IPL franchise owners have recently added teams to the UAE T20 league.
The Emirates Cricket Board (ECB) will run the league, which will start in January 2023 and have a potential salary cap of USD 2.5 million per team. Mumbai Indians, Kolkata Knight Riders, and Delhi Capitals are the three teams that won three of the six franchises in ILT20.
Lancer Capital, led by Avram Glazer, a member of Manchester United’s ownership, Adani Group, an Indian business conglomerate, and Capri Global, own the other three teams. In contrast, the IPL player with the highest salary earns more than $2 million per season; In the PSL, it is 200,000 dollars;
The Hundred pays USD 164,000 to its highest-paid player, and the BBL’s most expensive overseas players earn approximately USD 238,000 per season. There are also rumors that David Warner will play in the UAE T20 league instead of the Big Bash League due to the cost difference.
In reality, the UAE International T20 League is a global league in which each franchise is permitted to field 12 international players out of an 18-man roster. A squad must include at least three UAE players, two from other Associates and one Under-23 UAE player.
ESPNCricinfo reports that players can choose from nine wage slots, with the highest slot offering a payout of USD 340,000 and the lowest slot offering a payout of USD 10,000. A “minimum wage bill” of USD 1.5 million is included in the current total of USD 2.5 million.
A bonus of up to USD 500,000 as a signing-on or loyalty bonus and an additional USD 500,00 as a bidding purse are also options for a franchise. The “total direct payout,” as the league refers to the maximum salary a player can receive, is USD 450,000.
Instead of bidding through an auction or draft, ILT20 franchises are free to negotiate directly with players. The Abu Dhabi Knight Riders’ Jonny Bairstow leads the pack, and top players will be offered $340,000 to participate.
Each of the six franchises in the ILT20 may have a wage bill of approximately $2.5 million. Players from the UAE, like Rohan Mustafa, will be given priority for spots in the competition and will receive $10,000 in compensation.
