Home Run Derby Winners List 1985 to 2022, Most Successful Team
Home Run Derby Winners List 1985 to 2022, Most Successful Team: The Home Run Derby is an annual competition in Major League Baseball (MLB) to see who can hit the most home runs. It is usually held on the Sunday before the MLB All-Star Game, which is a Monday in July. In the context of the game, a "home run" is when a ball is hit in fair territory and flies out of the playing field. It's different from a home run hit during legal play because the batter isn't up against a pitcher and a defensive team trying to make an out.
The batter also doesn't have to wear the standard league uniform. Since all pitches are in the strike zone and there's no chance of a beanball, the batter can wear a regular baseball cap instead of a batting helmet. Since the event usually takes place at sunset, when the sun doesn't bother the batter, they can wear their hats casually and upside down. Since the first derby in 1985, the rules have changed several times. The event went from being based on short outs to having multiple rounds to becoming a timed bracket.
