In the 24th round of Serie A, Lazio takes on Sampdoria at the Stadio Olimpico on Monday (February 27). While the visitors are languishing in the relegation zone, Maurizio Sarri’s team will attempt to advance into the top four. Lazio held out for a goalless draw in Thursday’s return leg to secure their spot in the last 16 of the UEFA Conference League playoffs after defeating Cluj 1-0 in the first leg.
Sarri’s team is now focusing on Serie A, where they beat Salernitana 2-0 on Sunday to end their three-game losing streak. Lazio is fifth in the league with 43 points from 23 games, but if they win on Monday, they could move up to third.
In the meantime, Sampdoria’s home defeat to Bologna by a score of 2-1 was not enough to stop the slide. Since their 2-1 victory over Sassuolo on January 4, they have lost six of their last eight competitive games and drawn twice. Sampdoria is 19th in the standings with 11 points from 23 games, eight points behind Spezia outside the relegation zone, 17th.

Lazio will try to improve their position at the top of the standings after a successful domestic campaign. Sarri’s team has the firepower to finish the job, so they should make their struggling visitors even more miserable.
Prediction: Lazio 2-0 Sampdoria
With 23 victories from the previous 40 meetings, Lazio clearly has the advantage in this matchup. During that time, Sampdoria has won eight games while sharing the spoils nine times. Since their 3-0 defeat in October 2020, Lazio has not lost against Sampdoria in their last four matches. They have three victories and one draw.
Since their 2-1 victory over Sassuolo in January, Sampdoria has lost eight games across all competitions. With three victories and two draws, Lazio is unbeaten in six of their last seven league games heading into Monday.
Pedro, who trained while wearing a mask to protect his broken nose and is also in contention, has returned from suspension and illness and should join Ciro Immobile and Felipe Anderson in the hosts’ attacking trident.
Maurizio Sarri may be able to welcome back a number of important players after Lazio’s midweek European tour to help with Monday’s squad rotation plans. In addition to Zaccagni, Sergej Milinkovic-Savic has returned from the same illness, and Alessio Romagnoli’s injury may force him to the bench. After missing out on Thursday due to a European ban, Patric is also available once more.
