This week sees the return of the Premier League, with Everton taking on Jurgen Klopp’s Liverpool team in an important match at Anfield on Monday.
Everton, who are in 18th place in the Premier League standings at the moment, have had a hard time keeping up with their league rivals this season. The Toffees will attempt to repeat their crucial 1-0 victory over Arsenal in their previous match this weekend.
On the other hand, Liverpool is currently in 10th place in the league table and has not performed at their best this season. After suffering a 3-0 defeat to Wolverhampton Wanderers last week, the Merseyside giants will need to rebound in this match.
With their 3-0 defeat at struggling Wolves, Klopp and the Liverpool players endured one of their darkest days of the season. Wolves won thanks to an own goal from uninteresting Matip and a debut goal from defender Dawson after just 12 minutes.
In the second half, Wolves secured the three points with a well-timed third goal in the 71st minute thanks to Neves. Diaz, Melo, Konate, Jota, Firmino, and van Dijk are unlikely to play in the derby; however, if Tavares recovers from a virus, he could play.
The Toffees’ first game under Sean Dyche’s leadership was a huge success. The former Burnley manager used a 4-4-1-1 formation, which made it hard for Arsenal to break down and led to a lot more forward opportunities than the fans at Goodison Park have seen all season.
In the end, a header from a corner in the second half settled the game for Everton, who will now be hoping to build on this significant victory at Anfield with a positive outcome. Patterson, Garner, and Townsend are all out of Monday’s game, but Calvert-Lewin and Keane are likely to play.

Liverpool cannot afford another defeat in this match because of their poor performance throughout the season. In the Merseyside derby, Jurgen Klopp’s team will have to show their mettle after lying to the Premier League.
Everton showed a lot of heart in their match with Arsenal and has already improved under Sean Dyche. However, Liverpool should be able to win this game because they appear to be the superior team.
Prediction: Liverpool 2-1 Everton
Compared to Everton’s 83 victories in the Merseyside derby, Liverpool has won 123 of the 292 games played between the two teams. This is a strong record for Liverpool.
In the Premier League, Liverpool has only lost one of their last 22 matches against Everton at home, and that defeat came in February 2021.
The reverse match ended in a 0-0 draw—the 12th in the Merseyside derby’s history—setting a Premier League record for this scoreline.
Everton and Liverpool have met eight times on Mondays in the Premier League; Everton has won all three of those encounters at Anfield.
In 2023, Liverpool has only scored one goal in four Premier League matches, all of which they lost. As many times as in the 65 league games before this stretch, Liverpool has failed to score in their last three Premier League games.
