In the AFF Championship, Malaysia faces Singapore on Tuesday at the Bukit Jalil Stadium in Kuala Lumpur, knowing that only a win will advance them to the next round. The Tigers of Malaya are currently third in Group B with six points from three games, but their 3-0 loss to Vietnam on Tuesday threw a wrench in their plans.
In their first two matches, Kim Pan-Gon’s team defeated Myanmar (1-0) and Laos (5-0) to establish themselves as the clear favorite to reach the semifinals. However, Malaysia must win their fourth and final group match due to the shock loss they suffered last week.
Singapore, on the other hand, is in second place with seven points and would qualify for the last four with a draw. The Kallang Lions also won back-to-back games against Myanmar (3-2) and Laos (2-0) to start the season, but Vietnam ended their winning streak with a 0-0 draw.

In what will be a win-or-lose Championship matchup, Malaysia will rely on home support, and they also have a better head-to-head record against Singapore. However, the Kallang Lions only require a draw in this match, so they could set out to frustrate the Tigers of Malaya by sitting deep. Malaysia’s chances of progressing will also be ended if a game with few chances ends in a draw.
Prediction: Malaysia 1-1 Singapore
In the 74 previous meetings between the teams, Malaysia has defeated Singapore 30 times and lost 23 times. In the 2014 AFF Championship, Malaysia prevailed over Singapore for the last time (3-1). In their two most recent encounters with Malaysia, Singapore has prevailed, including a 2-1 victory in a friendly match in March 2022.
In their last three matches against Singapore, Malaysia has only managed to score one goal. Malaysia has won four of their last five games, losing one, but their most recent loss was against Vietnam (3-0) on Tuesday. Singapore has won three of its last five games, going unbeaten. In their last five games, Malaysia and Singapore have both failed to score just once.
