Cornell had displayed two goals on the Garden’s jumbotron just 74 seconds into the game on Saturday night. Following a pass from sophomore forward Sullivan Mack, Bancroft made a wrist shot from the slot 32 seconds after the puck dropped.The goal knocked the Huskies off their heels and sent the Cornell crowd into a frenzy.
42 seconds later, senior forward Matt Stienburg made a cut to the net along the goal line and slipped a backhand feed to sophomore forward Ondrej Psenicka. Psenicka sent the ball past UConn’s Logan Terness’ stick side and into the goal, giving the Red a 2-0 advantage.
Junior forward Gabe Seger broke to the net on a two-on-one opportunity with three and a half minutes left.
In the first period after intercepting a pass in the neutral zone.Cornell took a commanding 3-0 lead after Stienburg buried a backhander in the crease after Seger fed the puck to him. He second period, Cornell did not back down.In particular, Bancroft did not give in.In the middle frame, he scored two more goals to complete his hat trick.

The dominant victory was a significant step forward for the Red and helps to answer the question of whether Cornell can defeat elite college hockey teams.The victory, Cornell’s fourth in a row, should give the team confidence for when No.9 Harvard visits Lynah the following weekend.
