Morocco will play Spain in a round-of-16 match at the Education City Stadium on Tuesday in a crucial knockout matchup as the 2022 FIFA World Cup returns to the fold. After a shocking loss to Japan in their final group match, Spain finished second in Group E.
With one of the tournament’s best teams, La Furia Roja will be determined to advance to the next round. Morocco, on the other hand, has gone above and beyond at the World Cup thus far, finishing first in their group. The African team won by a score of 2-1 over Canada last week and will try to do the same in this game.

In advance of this match, Spain has an excellent pool of talent and a young squad at their disposal. The Iberian giants are serious contenders to win the World Cup, so their young players will need to perform well on the big stage. Morocco outlasted Belgium in the group stage, and on their day, they are perfectly capable of doing so. However, Spain ought to be able to win this match because they appear to be the superior team.
Prediction: Morocco 1-2 Spain
Spain has a phenomenal record against Morocco and has won two out of the three matches that have been played between the two groups, with the other match finishing in a draw. The two teams had a previous meeting in the group stages of the 2018 FIFA World Cup, which ended in a 2-2 draw.
Spain has never lost an official match against Morocco; in 1961, during World Cup qualifiers, they won their first two matches. Since 2010, when they went on to win the World Cup, Spain has not advanced past this stage of the competition, when they were eliminated by Russia.
Morocco is in the round of 16 for only the second time in their history. Their first trip there was in 1986, and they lost to Germany 1-0. For the first time, Spain will play an African team in the FIFA World Cup’s knockout rounds. They have won all five of their group games against African teams.
