New Zealand versus India: Shubman Gill beats Virat Kohli’s time but falls one inning short of setting a world record

Shubman Gill continued his phenomenal rise on Wednesday by scoring his third ODI century in his 19th match. In addition, he scored a record-breaking 1000 ODI runs in 19 innings.

Indian cricket had high hopes for Shubman Gill when he became a household name thanks to his performance at the 2018 U-19 World Cup.

So far, the young opener for Punjab has not let them down. In his 19th ODI, Gill scored his third century on Wednesday, continuing his phenomenal rise.

In the first ODI of a three-match Hyderabad series against New Zealand, he scored three fugues in just 87 balls. Gill, 23, has also scored a century in a Test match.

Gill scored a ton for the second game in a row. In the Thiruvananthapuram match against Sri Lanka, he scored a stunning 116 runs. Gill also scored 1000 runs in just 19 innings in the first one-day international against New Zealand.

He beat Virat Kohli and Shikhar Dhawan, who both scored 1000 runs in 24 innings, to become the fastest Indian to reach the mark.

Along with Pakistan’s Imam-ul-Haq, Gill is now the joint second-fastest player to score 1,000 runs. Gill beat Viv Richards, Babar Azam, Kevin Pietersen, Jonathan Trott, Quinton de Kock, and Rassie van der Dussen.

Who all scored 1000 ODI runs in 21 innings, by scoring 1000 runs in 19 innings. Fakhar Zaman (18 innings) of Pakistan is the fastest ODI player to 1000 runs.

Before the ODI series between Sri Lanka and New Zealand, Gil had Rohit Sharma’s full support. Gill was preferred as Rohit’s opening partner despite the presence of a powerful player like Ishan Kishan.

Additionally, the child exhibited sufficient maturity on most occasions. His strike rate has stood out in Gill’s most recent innings. He appears to be making an intentional effort to raise the stakes in favor of the team.

If Shubman can keep up his good form, he will be preferred in the long run for the opening spot with the ODI World Cup at home in a few months. Shikhar Dhawan is almost out of ODI contention.
