In an effort to reclaim their title as table-toppers, Mumbai City will compete on the grand stage of the Indian Super League for the first time in the year 2023. They will face Odisha, who are also eager to maintain their position in the Top 6 of the league standings. Monday’s high-profile Matchday 12 contest will be held at Bhubaneswar’s Kalinga Stadium.
Odisha kicked off their journey to the ninth edition in style by crushing Jamshedpur, the defending Premiership champions, in a high-scoring saga in their opening match. The Juggernauts’ 2022-23 ISL campaign got off to a great start, but they were only able to perform in small bursts throughout. The Chennaiyin team, which is in seventh place, is five points behind the Kalinga Warriors, who are at the bottom of the Top 6.
The first and only team to win twice in India’s top football league has dominated the first half of the 2022-23 ISL season with a blazing pace of goal-scoring. The Islanders’ offensive unit has scored a whopping 32 goals in 11 games, with 26 of those goals coming in their last eight games. Mumbai has knocked off the top spot in the standings by Hyderabad a few days ago, and the Islanders will return to exact their vengeance and reclaim their position.

Not just for this match, but this Mumbai City team has star power and on-paper strength that no other ISL team in the current edition can match. In the meantime, the Sky Blue outfitters will also have a psychological advantage due to their superior head-to-head record and current form. As a result, it is obvious that the Islanders will be the favorites in this away game, and the home team will need to pull off an upset to beat the contenders for the title.
In the Indian top-flight league, the Juggernauts have faced Mumbai City 17 times. The Men in Sky Blues lead the rivalry with the Kalinga Warriors after 11 victories over their southeastern counterparts. Meanwhile, in this league’s history, the semifinalists from 2015 and 2016 have defeated the Maharashtrian team five times.
On the second matchday of the current season, when the Odisha roster traveled to the City of Dreams and suffered their first defeat of the season, the two adversaries engaged in combat on the same field. At Mumbai Football Arena, the first half ended goalless until Mumbai scored in the 50th minute thanks to an own goal by Odisha defender Shubham Sarangi.
