Oldham Athletic will have to wait a while longer for their first National League victory after drawing 0-0 with Torquay United despite being reduced to ten men. With new owner Frank Rothwell in attendance, the Latics, who are now the first ex-Premier League side to play in the non-top league’s tier, were at a numerical disadvantage when returning Dan Gardner was sent off on 74 minutes – but still managed to earn a point. The Gulls nearly got off to the perfect start in an action-packed first period when Ali Omar nodded a Kieron Evans free-kick into the path of Will Goodwin, who rattled the crossbar on four minutes.
On 14 minutes, Brett McGavin played the ball through to fellow debutant Corie Andrews, who shot wide from close range. Andrews collided with Norman while attempting to score, taking a knock and being replaced four minutes later by Olaf Koszela. The Latics were now in control, and Ben Tollitt was denied by United keeper Mark Halstead in the 24th minute before Ben Wyatt blocked a Chris Porter effort on the goal line. Substitute Mike Fondop curled an effort around the post in the 69th minute, giving Oldham another chance.
Oldham has lost their last seven games in all competitions. Ben Tollett canceled out Le Ndlovu’s opener in their previous match against Boreham Wood. But, just as it appeared that the points would be shared, Ndlovu scored his second goal of the night four minutes into the second half, handing the Latics their 11th league defeat. Torquay, on the other hand, earned all three points against Dag & Red on December 3 thanks to Will Goodwin’s late goal.
The history of the last three matches played between both teams predicts that Torquay will win.

Over 2.5 markets may be appealing. Oldham Athletic, for example, would have won such a wager in 67% of its National League matches so far this season. In the Over 2.5 Goals market, Torquay United and Oldham Athletic have raised some eyebrows. Over 2.5 goals are scored in 27% of away games, compared to 49% in the league. Torquay United is therefore a viable wager.
