It’s looking doubtful that Valve will at any point make a Portal 3, and one of the franchise’s primary writers explains why this may be.

Given the enormous success of the first Portal game and its 2011 development, many fans have been expecting a third game in Valve’s comedic puzzle series, yet one of the franchise’s primary writers explains why another installment may not occur. Despite Portal being a fairly short sci-fi game, with most players having the option to finish it in two or three hours, it left a remarkable effect on the industry, with its psyche-bowing mechanics and humorous composition.

In spite of the fact that there’s been the same old thing from the series, aside from some fan projects and mods, Portal got an RTX overhaul towards the last option parts of 2022. This update gave the praised puzzle game a visual boost, supporting Nvidia’s restrictive beam following innovation. While this new version of the 16-year-old Valve release requested players to have some fairly beefy PC hardware to go with it, in any event, asking for an Nvidia RTX 4080 graphics card, it did basically return Portal to the spotlight for a short period. Nonetheless, that seems to be probably as much as the designer will give.

As per the latest episode of the My Ideal Console podcast, another section in the Portal series is probably going to be a test. Around the 4:30 sign of the episode, host Simon Parkin asks Erik Wolpaw, one of the head writers who dealt with both Portal games, why Valve can’t just start making a third game. Wolpaw responds by saying it’s to do with the organization’s “level structure,” in which projects at the studio are deliberate, and that means there needs to be an adequate number of individuals interested in a game to warrant improvement on it.

The essayist goes on to say that he might want to make a Portal 3, yet says that his discussing it is just him messing around with individuals who work at Valve, and he doesn’t wish to cause inner turmoil by pressuring the organization to make a third passage. Not just Portal struggles to get another game going.

Wolpaw has spoken in the past about why Valve doesn’t do threequels, saying that once a venture is finished, some will need to glance back at it to see what things can be fixed for a sequel. In any case, when a second game comes out, many will feel that there’s very little else that should be possible to enhance a specific IP, so game number three doesn’t see the illumination of day.

It is somewhat of a catastrophe for some fans who are always expecting another Half-Life, Left 4 Dead, or Portal installment. Despite its standing for some commended titles, Valve seldom makes computer games these days, save for the VR release Half-Life: Alyx and 2022’s Opening Desk Job, which was to a greater extent a tech demo for the Steam Deck as opposed to a full game.

Portal RTX released on December 8 for PC.
