After a nine-week break, RB Leipzig will play Bayern Munich at the Red Bull Arena on January 20 as they resume their Bundesliga campaign. The hosts have improved in recent games, going unbeaten in their last eight league games.
In their previous match, Leipzig defeated Werder Bremen 2-1 thanks to goals from André Silva and Xaver Schlager. It was their fourth consecutive victory. In contrast, Bayern has won ten consecutive matches across all competitions and five league games in a row.
They defeated Schalke 2-0 last time out thanks to goals from Serge Gnabry and Eric Maxim Choupo-Moting.

Christopher Nkunku, an experienced attacker, will be out for the hosts. In their last seven Bundesliga games played at home, they have scored at least twice, and this pattern should continue. It is anticipated that Munich’s excellent run in recent games will continue.
Since neither team has played a competitive game in more than two months, they may be a little rusty. Regardless, the visitors should have sufficient firepower to survive.
Prediction: RB Leipzig 2-3 Bayern Munich
In competitions, the two teams have clashed 15 times. 9-1 Bayern leads. Bayern has won five of their last five meetings, including the DFB Supercup final, which they won 5-3. Leipzig has kept four clean sheets in seven Bundesliga games, making them unbeaten at home. Munich has kept two clean sheets in their last three away games.
With 49 goals in 15 games, the visitors have the best offensive record in the competition. Leipzig has the third-best attacking record in the competition, having scored 30 goals in 15 games. Munich’s defense is the best in the Bundesliga, allowing just 13 goals in 15 games.
Since backup goalkeeper Janis Blaswich has not participated in any of their friendly matches, it will be a battle between him and goalkeeper Orjan Nyland. Club captain Peter Gulacsi is out of the picture. Konrad Laimer should make his first start since September, and Mohamed Simakan is back from the injury that kept him out of their final game before the break.
Timo Werner is still out with an ankle injury. Bayern’s backup goalkeeper, Sven Ulreich, has won all eight games in which he has started this season, the most of any player in the league who still has a 100% winning record. Ulreich should start in Neuer’s place in goal.
