On Monday, March 27, for the 2023 Africa Cup of Nations qualifiers, South Sudan and Congo square off at the neutral Tanzanian Tanzania National Main Stadium. On Thursday, March 23, the two teams clashed in Brazzaville, and South Sudan won in extra time. In the 66th minute, Chol Peter Bentiu Daniel gave the Bright Stars the lead, but Thievy Bifouma scored from the spot for the Red Devils to make it 2-2 in the 90th minute.
Tito Okello scored the winner for the visitors in the 96th minute, giving them all three points and reviving their hopes of qualifying. The game appeared to end in a draw. South Sudan is currently in second place in Group G with three points from their last two games. Despite accumulating the same number of points, Congo is still in the running. However, in terms of head-to-head competition, they trail South Sudan.
It is a three-horse race for a spot in the AFCON finals with Gambia, the last team in the group, also on three points, with Mali comfortably ahead of the pack with nine points. South Sudan, which only gained independence in 2011, aspires to compete in the AFCON for the first time next year. Congo, in the meantime, hasn’t played in that frame of mind starting around 2015.

In their most recent match, Congo came very close to earning a point against South Sudan, demonstrating their potential. The Red Devils may challenge them once more if they continue to play in the same manner. It’s likely that this will end in a draw.
Prediction: South Sudan 1-1 Congo
Congo and South Sudan’s conflict on Friday was their first. The visitors have scored once in their last three games, but they have not won any of them. Since their nine-game skid from September 2021 to June 2022, they have not lost more than once.
South Sudan has failed to score in just one of their last five games, winning three of them. Having beaten Congo in their last game, South Sudan is hoping to win consecutive trips interestingly since Spring a year ago.
