Team India will begin their journey toward the 2023 ICC men’s 50-over World Cup with a three-match one-day international series against Sri Lanka, with the first one-day international taking place in Guwahati on Tuesday (January 10). Indian veterans Rohit Sharma and Virat Kohli, who skipped the three-match T20I series that India won 2-1 on Saturday, will play in the game.
India will attempt to win their 10th consecutive ODI match at home since the beginning of 2020. In light of the upcoming World Cup, the BCCI selection committee has decided to concentrate on ODI cricket this year. However, even before the series could begin, the home team suffered a significant setback when Jasprit Bumrah’s return to action was postponed yet again.
According to what was communicated by the BCCI, Bumrah, who has been out since September 2022 with a back injury, was expected to return for the ODI series. However, it has now been confirmed that the Mumbai Indian pacers will not be participating in the ODI series.
India’s skipper Rohit Sharma, who broke his finger in the second ODI against Bangladesh last month, is making a full recovery from his injury. India will also be concerned about his form. The hosts have won 93 of their 162 ODI matches against the Dasun Shanaka-led team, giving them a significant historical advantage. Until this point, India has been defeated 57 times by the visitors.
Rohit Sharma will try to recover from India’s loss to Bangladesh in the 1-2 ODI series last month and continue India’s winning streak at home. Guwahati will host the first One-Day International on Tuesday, January 10.
