In the 2023 Africa Cup of Nations qualifiers, Sudan will play Gabon on Monday (March 27) at the Al Hilal Stadium in Omdurman in an effort to avenge their previous defeat.
Thursday, March 22, Gabon defeated Sudan 1-0 in Franceville thanks to a late goal from Lloyd Palun. The Panthers moved to the top of Group I with seven points from three games.
With another victory next week, Patrice Neveu’s team will move closer to securing their spot at the Cote d’Ivoire showcase, aiming for a second consecutive AFCON appearance.
Sudan, on the other hand, remains in third place because they were unable to capitalize on Mauritania’s loss to DR Congo, which put them in second place. The Secretarybirds are ahead of Congo in goal difference and have three points, one less than the Lions of Chinguetti.
Sudan may alter their starting XI, with seasoned defender Athar El Tahir likely to be given the nod. Gabon may keep their lineup the same. Sudan may change their lineup.

If they lose, Sudan’s chances of qualifying for the next round will worsen even further, but their recent performance has not been exceptional enough to warrant a prediction.
Despite only scoring twice in three qualifying games, Gabon is building their campaign on the back of a composed defense that is working in their favor.
The Panthers should once again defeat the Secretarybirds unless something explodes.
Prediction: Sudan 0-1 Gabon
Sudan has never beaten Gabon in four past gatherings, losing threefold. Seven goals have been scored in Gabon’s three of four matches against Sudan.
In 12 games, Gabon is undefeated. Their most recent defeat came in a 3-0 friendly loss to Burkina Faso in January 2022. The guests have neglected to score in only two games in their last ten.
Gabon and Tunisia are the only teams to have conceded after three games, and they have done so in all three of their 2023 AFCON qualifiers. Sudan has lost three of their seven games, including their last two.
In their two most recent matches, the hosts have conceded three times (3-1 to Ghana and 3-0 to Madagascar).
Sudan :
Despite not being able to take advantage of Mauritania’s loss to the Democratic Republic of the Congo in the previous match, Sudan remains in third place.
The Secretary Birds are in first place with three points and a better goal differential than Congo, while the Lions of Chinguetti are in second place with four points.
Sudan’s possibilities coming to the 2023 African Cup of Countries are still very great in light of the focus they have collected such a long way in this passing round. Since they are competing on their home turf, we anticipate that they will perform better.
Gabon:
The Panthers are currently in first place in Group I with seven points from their first three games thanks to Lloyd Palun’s late goal in Gabon’s 1-0 victory over Sudan in Franceville on Thursday.
Patrice Neveu’s team will move closer to securing their spot at the Cote d’Ivoire showpiece, where they will compete for a chance to qualify for the AFCON for the second year in a row, with a victory the following week. In all competitions, Gabon has won four of their previous five matches. They have allowed only two goals to be scored against them while scoring eight goals during this time period.
