Top 5 Indian bowling performances during the WTC cycle 2021–23: On June 7, Australia and India will compete in the World Test Championship (WTC) final at the Oval, hoping to build on their already-impressive achievements in international cricket.

Australia, a force to be reckoned with, will try to add to their list of world championships. In the meantime, India will be eager to snap its longest losing streak in the ICC competition, which has lasted for a full ten years.

India has recently outperformed Australia, winning all four of their most recent Test series against one other, and much will hinge on them in the World T20 final as well.

Here are the best 5 Indian bowling performances during the WTC 2021–23 Cycle:

    1 Ravindra Jadeja – 7 for 42 vs Australia, 2023

For the second straight test, India defeated Australia handily in three days to win the Border-Gavaskar trophy in Delhi.

With 61 for 1, Australia had a tiny advantage to start the day, but Jadeja’s arm balls completely destroyed them, and they were out for 113 in the first session.

In order to win the game and save the border Gavaskar trophy, India only needed 115 runs.

    2 Shardul Thakur – 7 for 61 vs South Africa, 2022

In the second India-South Africa Test, Shardul Thakur proved to be India’s most effective and viable bowling option, particularly in foreign conditions. He shredded South Africa’s batting to finish with seven wickets for 61 runs.

Rassie van der Dussen, Marco Jansen, and South Africa’s captain Dean Elgar were all dismissed by him. Even so, South African bowlers responded, as the hosts then easily chased down 240 to end the match. India was unable to force a result despite their efforts.

    3 R Ashwin – 6 for 91 vs Australia, 2023

For the fourth test between Australia and India at Ahmedabad, R Ashwin worked arduously and showed incredible patience to collect his 32nd five-wicket haul. For 47 overs, Ashwin had to wheel and deal to secure his second five-wicket series haul.

Australia scored 480 runs in their first innings despite Ashwin’s outstanding effort. India came back with 571 runs, and the game eventually tapered down to a tie, securing India’s spot in the WTC championship game.

    4 Jasprit Bumrah – 5 for 24 vs Sri Lanka, 2022

In the day-night test match in Bengaluru versus Sri Lanka, Jasprit Bumrah was at his best. The right-arm bowler made history by taking his first five wickets for India in just his fourth test on home soil. In test cricket, this was also his eighth five-wicket haul.

None of the Sri Lankan batters appeared relaxed as he got the pink to seam and swing. The hosts were dismissed for 109 runs as India began their second innings with a commanding 143-run advantage.

After that, the hosts gave Sri Lanka a 447-run goal to reach, and despite Dimuth Karunaratne’s super-ton, they prevailed by 238 runs.

    5 R Ashwin – 5 for 37 vs Australia, 2023

Australia was 223 runs behind India when the second innings of the match was resumed. However, when R Ashwin took the new ball and returned Usman Khawaja in his first over, things only got worse for the visitor.

     R Ashwin – 5 for 37 vs Australia, 2023

With the exception of Steve Smith, Ashwin continued to chip away at the Australian batting, dismantling it till they were bowled out for 91 in 32.3 overs.

Ashwin got his 31st five-wicket haul in test cricket by finishing with stats of 5/37.
