Tuchel says it’s my assessment about the loss against Southampton: Following Chelsea’s loss to Southampton, the blues fell to 2-1. By making the opening score, they did not cover the glory. Chelsea gave up their 1-0 lead earned through Raheem Sterling to defeat the opponents. They could not cover them in glory for Adam Armstrong or Romeo Lavia’s strike.
Cesar Azpilicueta on the other hand put the ball out for a corner easily before his stretched clearance landed at Romeo. The saint’s star was given enough time and opportunity to line up his strike to level the scores. Chelsea then failed to put the pressure on opponents to ball in the build-up. Especially Adam Armstrong’s winning performance that lacked energy overall. Chelsea was struggling to find form in 5 opening games of the Premier League this year. At Leeds, the main problem was that we were not able to score in the first 20 to 25 minutes. They were able to push us off the track with two goals in two minutes. We were not having any answer for that. We thought we at least had some answers in the first few minutes in the second half of the game. Today, we obviously scored, everything was okay in the beginning, but we set one piece again. One sloppy defending once again. Then we were off the track and today we did not react to that. We were lucky to not concede the third goal. We were not strong, or tough enough as a team to react or push us over the line.
Soft, soft defending what stops this? Pure mentality, stop this by pure mentality. Stop it by defending intelligently, there was no superiority for the opponents. There is no need to give shots away, there is no need to do that. Just tough enough. As a team shows a different mentality. And it is my assessment today that I did not like to talk about it normally. Because we cannot explain it with that data or the body position or tactical position in the field. It is like this: both goals are cheap the goals and should not happen. If you expect to win in a Premier League match on an evening in an away stadium.
