In the 2022-23 DFB Pokal campaign, Union Berlin will play Wolfsburg on Tuesday at the An der alten Forsterei. Jordan Siebatcheu and Kevin Behrens scored for the home team to overcome a deficit in the second half and earn a 2-1 victory over amateur team Chemnitzer to begin their cup campaign.
In the subsequent round, they faced Heidenheim, which they defeated 2-0 thanks to goals from Sven Michel and Tymoteusz Puchacz. Last season, Union defeated Hertha Berlin 3-2 at this stage of the tournament, and they will want to do the same here.
In the first round of the DFB Pokal, Wolfsburg defeated Carl Zeiss Jena 1-0 thanks to a late Omar Marmoush goal. In the subsequent round, they met Eintracht Braunschweig, and Mattias Svanberg and Jakub Kaminski scored in each half to give them a 2-1 victory. The visitors’ only cup championship came back in 2014–15, and they will be hoping to repeat that feat this year.

The most recent result ended Wolfsburg’s 11-game winning streak in all competitions, and they will be determined to rebound here. Due to their current strong play, the midweek matchup could be decided on penalties.
Union is confident going into the cup match because they have won their last three games. They will be excited about their chances ahead of the game on Tuesday because of how well they have performed at home this season.
Prediction: Union Berlin 2-2 Wolfsburg
There have been ten Union-Wolfsburg meetings. While the visitors have won four of those games, the hosts have won three of those games. Between the two teams, there have been three draws. In their most recent meeting, Berlin won 2-0, ending a streak of four consecutive victories for the two teams. This season, the Bundesliga has seen 22 goals scored by both teams.
Only Bundesliga champion Bayern Munich (16) has conceded fewer goals. This season, the Iron Ones have scored 20 points on their own turf. Only RB Leipzig (23 goals) has more. This season, Die Wolfe has lost four of its five league games on the road. This season, Wolfsburg is second in the league with seven clean sheets, behind only Freiburg.
Due to abdominal and ankle injuries, Union Berlin’s legendary manager will be without midfielders Morten Thorsby and Andras Schafer, but the team will still be able to use its fully fit players. Jordan Siebatcheu has been named as a substitute in each of his team’s last two victories because he hasn’t scored in a while. On Tuesday, however, Siebatcheu, an American, should start.
Lukas Nmecha and Felix Nmecha, brothers who are currently sidelined with injuries to their knees and thighs, will not travel with Wolfsburg. Despite losing for the first time in over four months against Bremen at the weekend, Maxence Lacroix and Joshua Guilavogui are two players who are likely to be used from the start in the capital. Kovac is unlikely to make too many changes.
Good luck in Serie A, Mathis! #fcunionhttps://t.co/LzkJH39QN5
