US Open tennis balls controversy explained: How it has become the biggest topic of discussion at Cincinnati Open ft. Iga Swiatek, Rafael Nadal and others

The tennis balls that were used during the US Open series have emerged as a prominent topic of discussion during the Cincinnati Open, which is currently taking place. Numerous players have shared their opinions on the subject.

The tennis balls that are played during the hardcourt swing in North America, which includes the Grand Slam tournament that is held in New York City, are different from those that are used during the rest of the season. In addition, during the US Open swing, the women’s tour utilizes a different type of tennis ball in comparison to the men’s tour’s usage of tennis balls.

Iga Swiatek, who is currently ranked first in the WTA, was the one who initially voiced her opposition to the use of Wilson tennis balls during the annual swing leading up to the US Open.

To begin, the number one player in the world was not happy with the lighter balls that were used on the WTA tour since, in her opinion, they fly about at a faster rate and cause a significant increase in the number of errors that the players make. The tennis legend from Poland was also against the fact that the men’s and women’s professional circuits use separate brands of tennis balls.

Swiatek made a comparison between the current generation of women’s tennis players and those from 10 to 15 years ago. He came to the conclusion that contemporary players had games that are significantly more powerful and are accustomed to playing with heavier balls. According to Swiatek, a good number of her top-10 coworkers share her perspective on the matter.

    Statements

“Oh, my God. To tell you the truth, I do not care for them. Swiatek commented on the situation by saying, “Well, I have heard many other players truly protesting, as well.” “Well, but the main point is that they are less heavy,” the speaker continued. They fly at a frenetic pace.

You should realise that right now we have a lot of incredibly powerful games. It’s nothing like it was ten years ago, with the exception of Serena; back then, girls played more slowly, right?

“Right now we play powerful, and we kind of can’t loosen up our hands with these balls,” the coach said. “It’s going to take some time.” I am aware that many players, including a number of top 10 players, have voiced their displeasure,” she continued.

Swiatek advocated for the use of heavier balls during the US Open series because, in her opinion, players competing on the WTA tour in modern times are significantly more physically capable of coping with more aggressive games. Some of her coworkers responded in a variety of ways to her comments after reading them.
