At a press conference Tuesday afternoon, officials said they are looking into the natural gas issue, but that the investigation is ongoing. A smell of gas was reported in the area.
Caleb Farley was not home at the time of the explosion, his agent confirmed to CBS News. “Our understanding is the house she bought was for her father,” Kent Green, director of Iredale County’s fire services and emergency management, told a news conference. Farley, along with his aunt and uncle, came into town Tuesday morning and went to the scene, Green said.
Officials said the 6,391-square-foot home was completely destroyed, along with several vehicles. “Nothing remains of the structure except perhaps a partial wall,” Green said.
