Women’s Champions League: Wolfsburg also defeats Chelsea and defeats Lyon

Their chances of winning the Women’s Champions League for the seventh time in eight years were harmed by Lyon’s 1-0 quarterfinal defeat to Chelsea.

After losing 1-0 to Chelsea in the first leg of the Women’s Champions League quarterfinals, Lyon’s hopes of winning the competition for the seventh time in eight years were dashed.

Due to Guro Reiten’s curling goal in the 28th minute, Chelsea will control the second leg against the defending champions next week at Stamford Bridge.

Since 2016, Lyon has only lost to a rival team from France, Paris Saint-Germain, in the competition’s quarterfinals in 2021.

Wolfsburg defeated PSG 1-0 in the other quarterfinal first leg on Wednesday. PSG has never won the Champions League.

Delphine Cascarino of Lyon hit the post in the second half at the Parc Olympique Lyonnais, but the eight-time champions were unable to draw level.

Ellie Carpenter, a midfielder, fought off Erin Cuthbert before passing the ball into the goal area, where the goalkeeper hit a one-timer to make the score 1-0.

The competition has never been won by Chelsea. Barcelona defeated it 4-0 in the 2021 championship.

Dominique Janssen, a defenseman for the Parc des Princes of Paris, won a penalty kick in the 62nd minute.

The German team was awarded a penalty after a video review revealed that PSG defender Elisa de Almeida handled the ball in the area. For this offense, she received a second yellow card.

Barcelona, Munititions stockpile, and Roma all scored one-objective triumphs in the main leg on Tuesday. AP)
