A former Pakistan captain backs India to win the 2023 Hockey World Cup

India will host the 2023 Hockey World Cup in January. India had previously served as the tournament host for the 2018 edition.

2023 Hockey World Cup: The 2023 Hockey World Cup will be held in India in January 2023. The Men in Blue, who placed sixth in the 2018 tournament, will stage hockey games in January for the second year in a row next year.

In the meantime, Tahir Zaman, a former captain of Pakistan, has backed the Indian team to win the championship in Odisha and end their 47-year wait.

India could win the Hockey World Cup next year if they can handle the pressure to be hosts, according to Zaman, who was a part of Pakistan’s World Cup victory in 1994. India stands a good chance this time, in my opinion.

Sincere as it may sound, home field advantage and crowd advantage can also be disadvantages.“They have to be careful of the pressure of the home crowd and the local media,” Zaman said.

After 41 years, India returned to the international stage in 2021 when it won an Olympic medal. At the Birmingham Commonwealth Games in 2022, the Indian boys won a Silver to go along with their historic Bronze.

In addition, Zaman emphasized that India’s hockey team has everything they need to win the World Cup. Aside from that, playing disciplined hockey and staying emotionally neutral will be beneficial. I would say that the Indian team’s consistent performance demonstrates that they possess everything necessary to become world champions this time,” Zaman added.

Additionally, Zaman stated that France and South Africa are upset teams. Additionally, he selected the teams to keep an eye on during the upcoming tournament. Teams like France and South Africa are capable of any kind of upset.

On the other hand, Germany, Australia, Belgium, and possibly Argentina are significant teams to keep an eye on. This time, I’d give Australia and the Netherlands a higher rating than Belgium.

But let’s see how things turn out.“May the best team win the World Cup,” the winner of the 1994 tournament said.
From January 13 to January 29, the 2023 Hockey World Cup will be held in Bhubaneswar and Rourkela. India also served as the tournament host for the 2018 edition.
