This week sees the return of the Copa del Rey, with Real Sociedad taking on Xavi’s Barcelona team in a crucial quarterfinal matchup on Wednesday at Camp Nou.
Real Sociedad is currently third in the La Liga standings and has consistently performed above expectations thus far this season. In their previous match, La Real defeated Rayo Vallecano with ease by a score of 2-0, and they will attempt to repeat that feat this week.
On the other hand, Barcelona is currently at the top of the league table and has performed admirably in the domestic arena this season. The Catalan team won by one goal over Getafe over the weekend and will try to do the same in this game.

Since dropping out of the Champions League, Xavi has led Barcelona to a remarkable run of form. This week, players like Ansu Fati and Raphinha who have a point to prove will need to step up.
Although Real Sociedad has performed admirably over the past year, they will have a tough task ahead of them on Wednesday. On paper, Barcelona is the better team, and they have the advantage going into this game.
Prediction: Barcelona 3-1 Real Sociedad
Real Sociedad has won six of the last 46 games they’ve played against Barcelona, but Barcelona has won 32 of those matches. At the moment, Real Sociedad has won six consecutive games across all competitions and has only given up one goal. With five wins in a row, Real Sociedad currently has the longest active winning streak in La Liga.
They last lost a league game to Valencia in November of last year, drawing 1-1. This season, Barcelona’s defense is the best in La Liga, and they have only given up six goals in 17 matches. At the moment, Barcelona is undefeated in 11 matches across all competitions, with their most recent defeat coming in October of last year against Bayern Munich in the UEFA Champions League.
It doesn’t get much better when it comes to the selection, with only one fitness issue for Barcelona manager Xavi Hernández to worry about thanks to a group that is almost full strength. Keidi Bare won’t play because of a ruptured ankle ligament.
Imanol Alguacil, manager of Real Sociedad, is currently dealing with fewer options for the team. Jon Pacheco (Lower leg Injury), Álex Sola (Hamstring Injury), Umar Sadiq (Cruciate Tendon Crack), Andoni Gorosabel (Lower leg Injury), Ander Guevara (Hamstring Injury), Mikel Merino (Hamstring Injury), and Martín Merquelanz (Knee Injury) are names that won’t be in the group sheet.
