Lionel Messi’s dream of becoming a world champion has come true. Argentina beat France 4-2 in a penalty shoot-out in the FIFA World Cup final played on Sunday. Both the teams were tied at 2-2 till the stipulated 90 minutes.
The match was tied 3-3 after extra time. After this, the decision was taken by penalty shootout. Messi scored two goals in the final. At the same time, Kylian Mbappe scored a hat-trick for France.
Argentina has won the World Cup after 36 years. Earlier, he got the title success in 1986. This is Argentina’s overall third title. The team became world champion for the first time in 1978.
At the same time, France’s dream of becoming world champion for the second time in a row remained incomplete. The team became the champion in 2018. France has lost in the penalty shootout in the final of the World Cup for the second time.
Earlier in 2006, they had lost in the penalty shootout in the final against Italy.
In the 116th minute, Kylian Embappé of France hit a shot toward Argentina’s penalty box. The ball hit the arm of Argentina’s Montiel standing in the box. The referee saw it and awarded the penalty to France.
Kylian Mbappé equalized the team this time by hitting a shot on the bottom right side. After this goal, the score line became 3-3.
In the 21st minute of the match, Angel Di Maria of Argentina ran toward the French penalty box with the ball. He raced down the left wing to get inside the box. But, France’s Ousmane Dembele fouled him. After the foul, the referee awarded a penalty to Argentina.
Lionel Messi hit a penalty shot in the 23rd minute. The ball went into the bottom right corner of the net and Argentina went ahead 1-0. With this goal, Messi has 6 goals in the tournament.
Despite the early lead, Argentina continued to attack France. In the 35th minute, Lionel Messi of Argentina ran with the ball from the right wing. He passed to fellow player Mac Allister in the French penalty box. McAllister gave the ball to Angel Di Maria at the same time.
In the 36th minute, French goalkeeper Hugo Lloris ran toward Di Maria. But Di Maria fired a shot toward the goal. The ball went straight into the net and the score became 2-0 in favor of Argentina.
In the 79th minute, Kolo Muani of France reached Argentina’s penalty box with the ball. Argentina’s Otamendi fouled him. Due to this, the referee gave France a chance to shoot the penalty.
Kylian Mbappe takes the penalty and hits the bottom left corner. Argentina goalkeeper Emilio Martínez was unable to keep the shot from going into the net.
After the score line was 2-1 in the 80th minute, France continued to attack. In the 81st minute, Coman of France took the ball and passed it to fellow player Kylian Mbappé. Mbappe passes the ball to Thuram and Thuram passes the ball back to Mbappe.
Mbappé took the ball towards Argentina’s penalty box and once again shot towards the bottom left corner. The goalkeeper of Argentina could not stop it from going into the goal and the score line became equal to 2-2.
There was no goal in the first half of the extra time. Then in the 108th minute of the second half, Lautaro Martinez of Argentina hit the goal. The ball hit the French goalkeeper and went to Lionel Messi. Messi shot toward the goal and the score line became 3-2.
