Team India started the new year off strong by defeating Sri Lanka, the current champions of the Asia Cup, in both the T20 and ODI formats. India will now attempt to extend its white-ball cricket winning streak against New Zealand after a fifty-over whitewash against Sri Lanka. There will be three Twenty-Twenty-Innings (T20Is) and three One-Day Internationals (ODI) between India and New Zealand.
While KL Rahul was not selected for either squad due to being on leave, Rohit Sharma and Virat Kohli remain absent from the T20I squad. Prithvi Shaw was recalled to the T20I squad for the first time since July 2021, and wicketkeeper-batsman KS Bharat was included in the ODI squad.
India will play the Black Caps in their second white-ball match in less than two months in the upcoming New Zealand series. India traveled to New Zealand in November 2022 to play three Twenty20 Internationals and as many One-Day Internationals after the T20 World Cup in Australia was over.
This series will be significantly more challenging for Indian players than for the Sri Lankan one. India was humiliated by New Zealand a few months ago in New Zealand. They would seek vengeance for that series’s demise. Additionally, they will field a team with full strength this time around.
