On Tuesday, January 10, Inter Milan, the defending champions, will face Parma at the San Siro to kick off their Coppa Italia campaign. One of eight teams in Serie A that have already qualified for the Round of 16 is the hosts. After a 2-2 draw with Monza on Sunday, Inter is unbeaten in their last four league games. In the previous three seasons, they reached the semifinals of the Coppa Italia.
In contrast, Parma advanced to the Round of 16 by defeating Bari 1-0 and Salernitana 2-0. Similar to Inter, they haven’t won in their last two Serie B games and are coming off a 2-2 draw with Venezia in December. Franco Vazquez scored twice, but they lost the league game for the second time in a row with two goals in 12 minutes.
Inter has won their last six games in all competitions and kept five clean sheets, all while performing admirably at home. They have only given up one goal and scored 17 times. Parma, on the other hand, hasn’t lost in their last three trips away. They have scored at least once in each of their last four encounters with Inter, who are anticipated to prevail.
Prediction: Inter Milan 2-1 Parma
Since 1960, when they met for the first time in the Coppa Italia, the two northern rivals have competed against each other 65 times. The hosts have taken control of the game as expected, leading 27-19. Inter has not lost in four of their last five meetings, with more than 2.5 goals scored. Ten times in the Coppa Italia, the Nerazzurri won 4-3 over the rivals.
