“Lewis Hamilton was trying to kiss me,” an ex-Mercedes teammate once said about an odd encounter with the seven-time world champion.

After the 2018 F1 Brazilian Grand Prix, Valtteri Bottas once made a joke about the time Lewis Hamilton tried to “kiss” him. Bottas jokingly stated that Hamilton had tried to kiss him and had his tongue out in a picture of the two drivers celebrating after the race. However, all they did was hug.

Lewis Hamilton looked at the picture as well and had the same opinion, but from his point of view. He stated that Valtteri Bottas, not him, wanted to kiss him. He went on to say that it didn’t happen because both drivers were wearing helmets. He stated, ” I wasn’t sure if Valtteri wanted to kiss me, so this picture is interesting. We were both wearing helmets, so he couldn’t get that close to us. He might have wanted to kiss me at that moment, but Valtteri is fine with that.

Valtteri Bottas and Lewis Hamilton were overjoyed to win the championship.

Even though Lewis Hamilton won his fifth world championship as a driver in 2018, the team still had one more goal for the season: the title of constructor’s champion. However, the drivers were able to outperform their rivals thanks to their exceptional driving, winning Mercedes another title at the time.

When discussing the achievement, Valtteri Bottas stated:

We won the title in this race as a team, but I won’t tell you what happened next. Every team member feels very proud of themselves at this moment. It was thoroughly due.

Hamilton was also pleased with this accomplishment, as he said:

“We achieved our primary objective, which is to win the Constructors’ Championship,” the team stated. Until the end of the 2021 season, both drivers competed alongside one another as teammates.

George Russell took the place of Valtteri Bottas and outperformed Hamilton in his first season with the team in 2022. Bottas joined Guanyu Zhou in racing when he switched to Alfa Romeo. Even though the team had some problems throughout the season, they hope to score more points in the 2023 season.
