On Wednesday, February 1, Maritimo and Porto will compete for three points in a Primeira Liga matchday 18 games. Last week, the hosts defeated Estoril 1-0 at the same location. The difference between the two teams was Rene’s goal in the third minute.
In contrast, Porto prevailed over Sporting Lisbon in the Taca da Liga final with a straightforward 2-0 victory. The Dragons won their first Portuguese League Cup with goals from Stephen Eustaquio and Ivan Marcano in each half.
In their bid to defend their title, the team led by Sergio Conceicao will focus on the league. With 39 points, they are third, eight points behind Benfica, who lead the table. Maritimo, on the other hand, is in last place, second from the bottom, with just 13 points from 17 games and five points from safety.

The defense of Porto’s title has not gone according to plan, especially in light of Benfica’s nearly flawless campaign, and Braga has also emerged as an unlikely contender. However, the defending champions have been successful, winning 17 consecutive games in all competitions.
Their confidence will grow as a result of their first Portuguese League Cup victory over Sporting Lisbon. Porto will be excited about their chances of winning a competition for the sixth time in a row. The visitors ought to secure a straightforward victory and keep a clean sheet.
Prediction: Maritimo 0-3 Porto
Porto holds a 46-12 lead going into this 69th meeting between the two teams. On the first day of the season, Porto prevailed 5-1 in their most recent meeting in August 2022. Porto has won 14 of their 17 games, including the last five, and is unbeaten across all competitions.
At least one team has failed to score in nine of Maritimo’s last ten competitive games. There have been goals scored on both sides in four of the last five meetings between these two teams. In five of their last six competitive matches, Porto has kept a clean sheet.
Maritimo will be without the 27-year-old midfielder Afonso, who was sent off in the team’s win over Estoril Praia and is currently on suspension. Stefano Beltrame, an Italian midfielder, will compete for a starting spot in his absence, joining Bruno Xadas, Rene Soares, and Leo Pereira in the middle of the field.
Gomes won’t be able to use veteran defender Junior Zainadine because of an injury to his muscle. He has missed the last three games. Diogo Mendes, a Portuguese midfielder, is another name on the club’s injury list. He left the game against Sporting Lisbon on December 13 with an injury.
Meanwhile, goalkeeper Francisco Meixedo, 21, will not play for Porto because he is recovering from a ligament injury.
