As the 34th round of the EFL Championship comes to a close on Monday, Swansea City and Rotherham United square off at the Liberty Stadium. The Swans will attempt to maintain their unbeaten streak against the visitors, which spans four games.
After being defeated by Stoke City 3-1 on Tuesday, Swansea City was unable to advance into the top half of the EFL Championship table. Since the beginning of February, they have scored six goals and conceded 12 goals, losing four of their last five games. The Swans are currently joint 15th in the league table with Hull City, which is 16th, with 42 points from 33 games.
In another area, Rotherham United beat Sunderland 2-1 at home last time out to get back to winning ways. Prior to that, they were winless in five games, drawing three of their games, and losing twice. Rotherham is currently 20th in the EFL Championship table, five points above the relegation zone, with 36 points from 33 matches.
Rotherham has had success at home in recent weeks, but they have struggled this season to get results away from home. We believe Swansea will win all three points to keep their unbeaten streak against the Millers going. They have had the better of this game.
Prediction: Swansea City 2-1 Rotherham United
Swansea has a better record in this matchup’s history, having won 30 of the 81 previous encounters. Over the course of that time, Rotherham United has won 25 games and drawn 26 others. In this matchup, the Swans have won four straight at home and are unbeaten in four games against Rotherham.
Since their 1-0 victory over Sheffield United in November, Rotherham has lost five games and drawn three away from home. The only win Swansea has had in their last five home games is a 2-1 victory over Blackpool on February 15.
Martin must decide whether to play with a back three or four, as that decision will likely affect Harry Darling’s selection. Morgan Whittaker will continue to play in the attack after scoring against Stoke last time out, but Olivier Ntcham is an option to join the team.
Joel Latibeaudiere and Kyle Naughton could both be called up, especially the former if Martin keeps using a defensive three. Lee Peltier could play center back if it is determined that he has recovered from a similar issue, as Rotherham defender Grant Hall has suffered a hamstring injury. Wes Harding is expected to be called up, and Hakeem Odoffin is ready to take Peltier’s place if Taylor doesn’t want to take any chances with the veteran.
