On Saturday, Verona takes on Lecce at the Stadio Marc’Antonio Bentegodi in Serie A. The two teams have had contrasting campaigns thus far. Verona is 18th in the league right now, seven points from safety. This season, Marco Zaffaroni’s team has only won two games in all competitions. They have been in terrible form. With a victory over Lecce this weekend, they will hope to turn things around.
On the other hand, Lecce is 14th in the table, three points behind Torino, which is in ninth place. The team led by Marco Baroni has been playing well lately, winning their last six games in all competitions. With a victory over Verona on Saturday, they will try to extend their winning streak. It should be an interesting matchup because different teams will want to win the game.

This weekend’s matchup between the two teams should reflect their divergent recent performances. Simone Verdi and Davide Faraoni are both unavailable for Verona. In the meantime, injuries will prevent Lecce from playing Kastriot Dermaku or Marin Pongracic. Given the disparity in quality and form between the two teams, it’s hard to imagine Verona taking anything away from the game. We anticipate a close game in which Lecce will narrowly win.
Prediction: Verona 0-1 Lecce
Given that each team has won two of its last four games against the other, it’s hard to pick a favorite between the two teams based on their recent head-to-head record. The previous time the two teams met, in January 2020, Verona won 3-0.
The night’s victory was secured by goals from Matteo Pessina, Giampaolo Pazzini, and Pawel Dawidowicz. Verona’s offense ranks third in the league, with only 15 goals in their first 18 games this season. Lecce’s defense ranks joint fifth in the league and has only given up 20 goals in 18 games so far this season.
Lecce, on the other hand, has few fitness concerns and is likely to keep most of the team that gave Milan such a scare, if not all of it. Only defensive duo Kastriot Dermaku (thigh) and Marin Pongracic (ankle) are expected to miss the trip to Veneto; Pongracic has been scheduled for surgery and could be out until April.
Both Martin Hongla (also thigh) and Simone Verdi (muscular)’s participation in Saturday’s game is uncertain, and Verona will be without captain Marco Faraoni (thigh) until later this month. Jayden Braaf, a young striker who recently signed on loan from Borussia Dortmund, should be available, but Marco Zaffaroni is likely to select a team that is similar to the one that lost to Inter. As a result, Milan Djuric leads the Gialloblu attack once more, though Adrien Tameze, Ibrahim Sulemana, and veteran Miguel Veloso may compete for midfield positions.
