Ben Stokes, the captain of England, produced some eye-catching shots during the second day of the second Test match of South Africa’s tour of England 2022 in Manchester. Stokes’s goal was to prevent the dismissals of two overnight batters from having an adverse effect on his team.

After coming in to bat at position No. 6 in the 34th over, Stokes scored his first boundary of the innings off of Kagiso Rabada, who was bowling for South Africa. When Stokes faced the following delivery, he got down on one knee and hit the spinner, Simon Harmer, for a six over the midwicket fielder.

During the 45th over, Stokes scored a boundary off of Lungi Ngidi as the home team continued to add to their run total and expand their advantage after the first innings. Despite this, Stokes played the shot of the morning in Ngidi’s next over by dancing down the track in order to drive the right-arm bowler down the ground with a stamp of authority.

“Wow! That is just wonderful. Utilization of the feet, control, and the swinging of bats as straight as possible. The commentator for Sky Sports who was on duty that morning used the word “high quality” to describe Stokes’ third four of the morning.

In spite of the fact that Stokes (34*) and wicket-keeper hitter Ben Foakes (33*) traded with caution in the overs before lunch, England was still able to score 101/2 in 28 overs during the first session at Old Trafford today.

England had established a 61-run lead in the first innings as a result of their run rate of 3.6 during the first session of Day 2 of the match. It is up to England, who still have five wickets to lose and a sufficient amount of time left in the game, to determine whether or not they can bat South Africa out of this match.

On the other hand, the Proteas would aim to take early wickets during the afternoon session because no team is happy with the prospect of giving up a massive lead in the first innings. South Africa should be under pressure to perform and defend their selection strategies, which consisted of fiddling with a winning combination, as a result of their decision to take a second spinner rather than a left-arm fast bowler.
