On Saturday, December 10, in round 22 of the EFL Championship, Birmingham City and Blackpool will square off at Bloomfield Road Stadium. The Seasiders hope to break their four-game losing streak this weekend and get out of the relegation zone. Blackpool’s most recent game, a 2-1 defeat to Wigan Athletic on November 12, was their last chance to break their slump.
Since their 2-1 victory over Coventry City on October 29, they have now lost their last four league games, scoring once and allowing seven goals. Blackpool is 23rd in the Championship, one point from safety, with 22 points from 21 games. In the meantime, Birmingham’s final game before the 2022 FIFA World Cup break was a 2-1 loss to Sunderland.
Prior to that, they had gone four games without losing, winning two, and drawing one. With 28 points from 21 games, Birmingham is 14th in the league. However, if they get all three points this weekend, they could tie QPR, who is sixth, for points.
Blackpool is currently at the bottom of the Championship standings after a disappointing campaign. Birmingham should earn all three points against an out-of-sorts Blackpool team because of their excellent run of results away from home.
Prediction: Blackpool 0-1 Birmingham City
The two teams will meet for the 100th time this year. Blackpool has a better record with 41 victories. Birmingham has won 35 games since their first encounter with Blackpool in January 1897, splitting the spoils 23 times. With the exception of a 6-1 defeat in April, Birmingham has won eight of their last nine games against Blackpool.
Blackpool has lost four straight league games since beating Coventry City 2-1 on October 29. Birmingham is unbeaten in everything except one of their last five association games, getting two successes and as many attractions as that time.
