Indian badminton players presented their challenge in the Indonesia Open badminton tournament on Thursday. In this, our shuttlers got mixed success. In this tournament being played in Jakarta, HS Prannoy and Sameer Verma entered the next round after winning their respective matches, while double Olympic medalist PV Sindhu, rising star Lakshya Sen, and Kidambi Srikanth crashed out after losing in the first round.
Remind that our shuttlers could not perform well in the Indonesia Masters. The tournament was a good platform for Indian shuttlers to prepare for the upcoming Birmingham Commonwealth Games, but they failed to capitalize on the opportunity.
In the first round of women’s singles, PV Sindhu gets a loss to Hee Bing Jiao 21-14, 21-18. In the match, the world number-9 player won in straight sets. The match lasted 47 minutes. Pranay won over the Sen for the first time.
World No-8 Lakshya Sen defeated HS Prannoy 21-10, 21-9 in successive games. 22-year-old K Lakshya Sen had lost in the top-8 round of the Indonesia Masters tournament a few days back. Lakshya Sen, who won his maiden Super 500 title this year, reached the final of the All England Open and was part of the Indian team that won the Thomas Cup. This is Prannoy’s first win in 3 matches against Lakshya Sen.
Srikanth defeated Bryce Leverdez 23-21, 21-10 in the men’s singles first-round match. This is the first loss for Bryce on Srikanth. This was the sixth match between the two.
Here Sameer Verma and HS Prannoy have reached the pre-quarterfinals. In the pre-quarterfinals, Sameer will face sixth seed Li Jia, while Prannoy will take on Angus Ng Ka Long of Hong Kong.
With each match that I watch, my love for the game just increases. All I dream of is to join my passion for writing with that of the game and pen down the live-action.
As a person, I am a quick learner and work well in a team for that is what wins the series.
